Quizlet - a flashcard site
Quizlet is a site that has a number of pre-made virtual flashcard sets for specific topics and subjects. This link brings you to a geometry set that includes many of the terms we will need to be familiar with for class. I also encourage you to start your own set and to make your own flashcards. Not only will you learn by practicing your flashcards, but the act of making them and typing them out will help you to commit the meanings of the terms to memory. You can also enter your own pictures or symbols in as you see fit.

Quia - personalized activities and quizzes
Quia is a tool we will be using for online self quizzing through out the year. This link to the quia algebra quiz is for further practice at one of the most important skills in algebra, translating from verbal instruction to algebraic expressions. One of the most feared problems in math is the word problem. However, if you can remain systematic about your approach to breaking down and deciphering the facts, generating algebraic expressions from these facts becomes much more manageable. This quiz takes the detective work out of world problems and just focus on the skill of translating words to algebra and vise versa. I will have a library of activities and quizzes that I will be referring students to that require some additional time and practice in certain areas.

Skillswise
Skillswise is another site that will provide the opportunity for some additional learning and practice for specific areas. These videos and quizzes are more life-skilled based and readily answer the popular math question "when are we going to use this." This site was created by the BBC so don't be thrown off with the use of the pound sign instead of the dollar sign. This site is especially great practice for students that may be behind in some of the lower levels of math and in number manipulation. Many of the videos and quizzes are excellent in assisting students in becoming more comfortable with common mathematical phrases and calculations.

Illuminations
This is a very handy site that we will be using for both algebra and geometry. The virtual constructions you can create on this site are very useful for geometry as you can create constructions without special tools like a compass. You may need to update your java player to use some of the constructions examples. Sometimes the directions are confusing, so be sure to read under all the tabs before getting started. This link shows an activity we will do in class where we use circles and intersections to construct a ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles. Be sure to click on the why it works button when you are done and that you fully understand why this construction works and are able to answer the questions under why it works on the exploration tab. I will be assigning work from this site throughout the year.
